Taco Thursday - Los Tacos No. 1

Earlier this year we went to New York to visit relatives and do the things one does when in New York, dollar pizza slices, bagels, coffee, donuts, Ruben sandwiches, see the sights and go to a show on Broadway! So we were queuing up for a show when we noticed a place across the street that had people queuing down the block. Local knowledge is great but when you see that many people queuing, what's inside has to be good!

So the next evening we headed over to check it out( before the 9 to 5ers finished work) and it is a gem hidden in plain sight! Los Tacos No.1 on west 43rd did not disappoint! We ordered one of each to try between us(except for the cactus one!), a bag if tortilla chips and guac and two cokes (the ones on the glass bottles). To see the guys making these in front of you at lightning speed was impressive! They offer chicken, pork, beef and a delicious stuffed and fried quesadilla, called the especial, and it was! A variety of salsas to choose from tops it off perfectly! While there you will be reminded: no ticket? No taco!

This was the best food experience I had while in New York! The simplicity of the dish but the complexity of the flavours was mind blowing! This place is special! There are no seats, just a standing area with high tables, the flow of people was constant, from all walks of life. This place is great value with meat filled tacos starting at $3.75 and quesadillas starting at $4.75. When I return to New York this place will be first on my list!
